Energy savings

Awnings can reduce a home's internal temperature by 8° to 15° F (5°C - 8°C)

Solar radiation through glass is responsible for approximately 20% of the load on a residential air conditioner.

On a hot day, more energy is lost through one square foot of glass than through an entire insulated wall.
A fabric awning reduced heat gain by 55% to 65% during the period of the day when the sun shines directly on southern facing windows, and 72% to 77% for western exposures.

Increase the value of your home with a retractable awning

Transforming a deck or patio into an inviting, functional outdoor space with a retractable awning will increase a homes value and ultimately create greater selling power.  Awnings can also be the finishing touch to your deck or pario investment by creating an environment that will make for a more usable area, especially in an area like here in Texas where triple digit temperatures were the norm last summer.
Permenant home additions can cost between $150 and $200 per square foot, making it easy to spend over $20,000 on a simple 12 x 12-ft. room.  Permanent additions also require significant upkeep and can limit future landscape options.  In contrast, a retractable awning provides a cost-effective option.
Many designers and homeowners are  incorporating awnings in an effort to create an affordable and appealing oasis that captures the defining characteristics of an outdoor room.  Not only do awnings create a premium outdoor hangout for family and friends to gather, but the new space can increase the value with a  low initial cost.
Dollar for dollar, the value of this investment is hard to match.

The Benefits of a Retractable Awning

What are the benefits of a retractable awning?  They provide instant shade with just the push of a button, outdoor tempertatures can be reduced up to 30 degrees.  They provide outdoor living space. It will expand your living and entertaining space, and here in Texas with the sweltering heat that is a definite plus. It will protect your carpet, artwork and furnishings from damaging UV rays.  You can savor the shade in the summer and benefit from the sun in the winter.  You will save money on your electric bills by reducing heat gain.  Retractable awnings can reduce temperatures inside your home up to 15 degrees and save you up to 60% on your cooling cost.
Retractable awnings may be automated with Somfy sun sensors to automatically extend at sun up and automatically retract about a half hour after sundown or with motion sensors to automatically retract if the winds were to pick up.  In a nut shell, retractable awnings are a win-win for the homeowner.

Saving Energy

An energy study conducted by the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota revealed the impact of awnings in residential buildings. According to the study, awnings can reduce annual cooling energy by as much as 16 percent in hot climates such as Houston.  The amount of cooling energy saved varies on the number of windows, window orientation and the climate the home is in.  The homes that receive the greatest energy-savings benefits from awnings have mostly west-facing windows.
